Co-Owner & Hair Stylist Suzanne has dedicated decades to the hair industry, building a reputation as a hair stylist and in barbering skills while showing genuine care for everyone who sits in her chair. Since becoming a licensed cosmetology professional in 1984, she has honed her craft through years of hands-on experience as both a stylist and barber. Throughout her career, Suzanne has also shared her expertise as an educator. While living in Illinois, she worked as an instructor for the Brocato Professional Haircare Company, teaching advanced techniques and professional development to fellow stylists. Her passion for the industry extends beyond the chair, rooted in a desire to elevate the craft and support others within it. Service to others has always been a guiding principle in Suzanne’s life. For six years, she partnered with Goodwill Industries to provide free monthly haircuts to homeless veterans and participated in the annual Goodwill Stand Down event. For Suzanne, a haircut is more than grooming; it’s a way to restore dignity, confidence, and connection for those who have served. In 2020, Suzanne relocated to Florida, bringing with her decades of experience, a deep respect for the barbering tradition, and a passion for helping people look and feel their best. Today, as co-owner of Rathbun's Barbershop, she combines technical mastery with a warm, welcoming approach that keeps clients returning year after year. Suzanne’s connection to the hair industry, however, began long before she ever picked up a pair of shears. Growing up at Bentwaters Air Force Base in Suffolk, England, in a military family that moved between the United States and the United Kingdom, she was immersed in the world of hair from a young age. At the age of three, her family relocated to Portland, Maine, before eventually returning to England after her father came home from service in Vietnam. Hair was always part of her life. Suzanne’s mother owned a salon for many years, and by the time Suzanne was just six years old, she was already spending time in the shop, observing the rhythm of the chairs, the conversations, and the craft itself. Those early moments quietly planted the seed for what would become a lifelong career and passion.

Co-Owner Robert's story is built on service, discipline, and leadership. Raised in the small town of Kane, Pennsylvania, Robert began his journey of service when he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1984. Serving as a Boatswain’s Mate (BM3), he developed the work ethic and responsibility that would shape the rest of his life. In 1989, Robert answered another call to serve by joining the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman. During his nearly decade of service, he earned the honor of becoming a Marine Corps Drill Instructor at Parris Island in 1993, where for three demanding years he trained and mentored new Marines, instilling the values of discipline, resilience, and pride in service. Following his time as a Drill Instructor, Robert continued his Marine Corps career with a fixed-wing aircraft squadron in Beaufort, South Carolina before completing his military service in 1998. After his years in uniform, Robert brought the same dedication and toughness to the civilian workforce. His career path led him from professional truck driving to operating heavy equipment, eventually moving into construction safety leadership. Today, he serves as a Corporate Safety Director, helping ensure that workers across the industry return home safely to their families every day. For Robert, opening Rathbun's Barbershop represents more than just starting a business. It’s about building community, honoring tradition, and creating a place where people can gather, talk, and walk out feeling confident and squared away. Robert's military background, leadership experience, and commitment to service continue to guide the way he runs the shop today.
